PRESENTATION
GAIA VISION is an international virtual network of young experts on sustainable development located on all continents. It intends to act as a go-between fostering the dissemination and sharing of new knowledge and initiatives. To this end, the young researchers involved will release articles presenting news, innovative ideas and projects aimed at achieving social and environmental development in their respective countries. Thus, we hope to turn GAIA VISION gradually into the reference network of choice for all those interested in the major issues concerning sustainable development worldwide.
VISION
GAIA VISION subscribes to the definition of sustainable development presented in the Brundtland report in 1987 . It is thus defined as environmental, social and economic development that enables the fulfilment of the needs of the present generations without threatening the capacity of the future generations to do the same.
Consequently, the GAIA VISION network will disseminate articles and information on the latest news, knowledge and environmental projects as well as on all the other economic and social aspects of the development of societies and communities in the countries of the North and the South. A great variety of subjects will be tackled ranging from environmental management and renewable energies to the education of women and children, gender and social equality, the fight against poverty etc.
FUNCTIONING
GAIA VISION currently relies entirely on the voluntary involvement of its members, who are all field experts on one or more aspects of sustainable development. If you believe that you have the knowledge to contribute to the network, do not hesitate to get in touch with us! We will be pleased to include you amongst us and to have the opportunity to add your skills to the ones of our present members. Our combined efforts will be GAIA VISION’s strength and driving-force!
Moreover, GAIA VISION hopes, in the near future, to be able to disseminate all the information provided by its members in the three initial languages of the network (French, English and Portuguese). It also hopes to increase the number of languages in which it publishes. If you are in a position to help us translate articles or sections of our site from one language to another, do not hesitate to contact us!
GAIA VISION will be able to provide its voluntary translators with participation certificates and recommendation letters.
